The Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) and the Travel and Tourism Research Association (TTRA) have signed a formal partnership agreement to deepen collaboration in tourism research, knowledge sharing, and professional networking. The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), finalized in Bangkok, establishes a structured framework for joint initiatives aimed at supporting sustainable tourism development across the industry.
The agreement reflects a growing recognition that research and data-driven insights serve as important tools for handling industry changes and guiding decision-making. PATA CEO Noor Ahmad Hamid emphasized that reliable tourism intelligence is essential for destinations and businesses adapting to evolving trends. TTRA’s global network of researchers, academics, and practitioners will complement PATA’s regional focus, creating new avenues for cross-border knowledge exchange.
The partnership will operate across four key areas. First, event collaboration will see both organizations supporting each other’s programmes by sharing speakers and participating in each other’s conferences. Second, knowledge exchange will involve joint discussions on research, planning, and emerging industry trends. Third, mutual promotion of events will occur through member communications and shared marketing channels. Fourth, expanded professional engagement will connect PATA’s Asia-Pacific network with TTRA’s international community.
TTRA CEO Kathleen Palmer highlighted the potential for broader impact, noting that the alliance will amplify research-driven initiatives and extend their reach. The MOU also allows for future expansions based on shared priorities.
The framework will facilitate direct interactions between PATA’s regional tourism professionals and TTRA’s global research community, supporting practical applications of academic insights. Both organizations will promote joint activities through newsletters and digital channels, ensuring wider visibility for collaborative projects.
